Nutrition & Exercise
When tough situations arise that appear incurable, don’t lose sight of the fact that under every disease is the need to correct nutrient deficiencies and then to detoxify the accumulated damaging load. Periodontal disease falls into this category. Just because it is relegated as a dental problem, it is no exception. Gum and tooth infections that resist antibiotic treatments can be as simple as identifying and repairing a vitamin D deficiency. Bleeding gums and bone loss around the teeth roots are signs that there is a systemic problem going on, and it can be as serious as diabetes and cancer.
Vitamin K deficiency is very common, rarely checked and easily corrected. It creates low bone mineral density and markedly increase the fracture risk. When there is insufficient vitamin K, calcium cannot deposit in the bones (including the jawbone), but instead dumps into the coronary vessels as well as heart valves. For don’t forget that when the bone does not have the essential nutrients to hold calcium on board, that calcium then dumps into the heart arteries and heart valves. With Fosamax prescriptions and consumer ads burgeoning, there will be more folks with the side effects of osteoporosis drugs such as jawbone rot, loss of teeth and much more. Clearly, one disease leads to the other, especially when the first one is not properly cured, but merely bludgeoned with the latest drugs.
The mouth is the window to our overall health. The early signs and symptoms (bleeding gums, dry mouth, smooth or burning tongue to name a few) of disease are seen in the mouth way before it shows in any blood tests. In addition, blood tests do not always show signs that there is something going wrong in the body, but it shows in the mouth.
Consuming excess chocolate and sugary treats affect your health. Sweets also affect blood sugar levels and oral health. Besides causing cavities, sweets also cause “insulin resistance”, making it quite difficult to lose excess weight gain.
EXERCISE: Have balance in your life by making exercise a part of it. If you are just new to exercise, start with simple stretching and walking. Once you develop the habit of exercising on a daily basis, then you can do more advance workouts.
